Coastal Kids’ Bedroom - Final Reveal
This is the only ‘Before’ picture I have of the space, which was taken during the clear-out phase. Not the best picture but you get the gist. It hadn’t been decorated in years and had become a kind of dumping ground for old items of furniture.
If you’ve read my previous blog posts about this renovation you’ll know that my mum and dad own this house and it’s used by all their grandchildren for weekend visits and short holidays. It’s quite a small space, so we wanted to incorporate bunk beds in this room to maximise the sleeping space. Because the bunk beds needed to go in the existing bed’s location, we had the radiator moved to the opposite side of the room so that it’s positioned under the window.
The Interior Design Scheme
We wanted this space to feel coastal and calming but fun at the same time so we chose a soothing warm grey for the walls (Pebble Shore by Dulux) and we used lots of colour in the accents, with soft teals and yellows as the main hues to bring the space to life. We incorporated lots of different materials and textures for cosiness.
The geometric print of the John Lewis duvet covers adds a fun feel and the monochrome style allowed us to easily accessorise with pops of colour.
Because this room is mainly used for weekend stays, it doesn’t need lots of clothes storage - the beach hut inspired Noa lacquered wardrobe from La Redoute works perfectly.
The mid-century chest of drawers was a £60 eBay bargain and had already been painted in a soft teal - perfect for our scheme!
The cute wall shelves echo the shape of the wardrobe and add more colour and texture. We incorporated lots of lighting sources with a table lamp for reading before bedtime, and a light-up cactus as a night light.
