Our Christmas Table - Quick and Easy Decor Ideas
While I love all of the pretty homemade wreaths and garlands that I see on Instagram, what with work and kids, I barely have time to think around Christmas time so foraging in my local woods for berries is out of the question. If, like me, you're time poor but you want a festive and elegant Christmas table setting that's quick and easy to achieve, this is for you! Also, take a look at how I styled our living room Christmas fireplace with simple decor ideas.
For this Christmas table in our kitchen-diner, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on things that I’d hardly use so most of the items are things I already had. The only extras I bought were the placemats, paper trees, Christmas tree candles and pink glass candlesticks, at a total cost of about £35. I will include a source list for all items at the end of this post.
Place settings
I didn't want to go to the expense of buying table linens that I'd only use once a year for our Christmas dinner so instead of a table cloth, I chose some cheap place mats from John Lewis. They have a pretty scallop edging and at £2 each, they're super affordable!
I placed the side plates on top of matching dinner plates and instead of standard white napkins, I chose star patterned ones. I wrapped them around the cutlery and tied them with pretty ribbons for a bit of Christmas sparkle. Ideally, the napkins would have been bigger linen ones but again, I didn’t want to go to the added expense.
Lights and candles
No Christmas dinner table is complete without twinkly lights. Candles are must have Christmas table decorations and they're a beautiful way of creating a warm and inviting atmosphere around your dining room table. I added a mixture of candles at different heights with pink glass and gold candlesticks, together with a couple of Christmas tree shaped candles. I also dotted tealights in pink mercurised glass holders around the dining table for a twinkling effect.
I bought the gold leaf shaped fairy lights for my hallway fireplace a few years ago (they look especially lovely at autumn time) and I strung them along the table.
Tree shaped Christmas decorations
Christmas tree shapes make great festive centerpieces. I used my existing glass cake stand to create a festive centerpiece with a Christmas tree candle, pine cones and other bits like dried orange and cinnamon sticks that I had left over from wreath making years ago.
I also added a couple of paper glitter trees at either side of the table.
